Systems Administrator

Under the general direction of the Director of IT, the Systems Administrator role is to ensure the stable operation of the Benedictine College systems. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all system components. The Systems Administrator will maintain security through the management and configuration of servers and workstations, including keeping all devices up to date with security patches. Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Linux/Unix and Mac OS is required. Knowledge of virtualized environments is required. Knowledge of Active Directory Domain Services is required. The Systems Administrator will aid in the planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all server hardware, software, and communication links. The person will also analyze and resolve end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion also providing end user training where required. Prepares and maintains documentation for current server infrastructure, backup, and disaster recovery procedures.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. On call as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Manage servers (virtual and physical), including SAN/storage, VoIP, and backup servers including their associated operating systems and software.
  • Manage and maintain all systems security resources, including anti-virus, and user permissions.
  • Administer all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Practice server asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Perform server and security audits.
  • Perform system backups and recovery.
  • Monitor and test server performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Must be able to complete physical capacity profile testing.

Education

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, educational technology, or similar field. Specialized training or experienced knowledge with server administration including Microsoft and Linux certifications is preferred. Higher education technical school and experience will be considered in place of college degree.

Experience

  • Successful work history with experience in related field is required.
