March 13 Message Regarding the Suspension of Athletic Events | Benedictine College

COVID-19 - Message Regarding Suspension of Athletic Events - Mar. 13

Sent to Benedictine College students, student parents, faculty and staff on March 13, 2020.

Dear Benedictine College community -

We saw an unprecedented day in American history yesterday with the suspension of games by all major league sports. Many athletic conferences also suspended their basketball tournaments and the NCAA canceled March Madness for the first time since its inception. Earlier this week, the NAIA canceled all Winter championship events. Clearly, these are extraordinary times.

Today, the Heart of America Athletic Conference, in which most of our sports compete, announced the suspension of all athletic contests through March 30. They will reassess the situation at that time to determine if games can resume. Similarly, the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, in which men’s and women’s lacrosse compete, suspended all athletic activity indefinitely.

Benedictine College has taken the additional step of suspending all practices, meetings, film review, and weightlifting through March 30. The Athletic Department, working with the conferences, will monitor the situation over the next few weeks and decide on the resumption of activities beyond March 30.
