BALDWIN CITY – Looking to grab some momentum heading into the HAAC Postseason Tournament on Thursday, the Raven men's basketball team traveled to Baker University on Monday to wrap up the regular season.
With the top six seeds already decided heading into play, Baker (15-13, 8-10 HAAC) outscored Benedictine (18-11, 10-8 HAAC) by eight points in the second half to earn a 54-50 win.
Benedictine held a four-point advantage at the half, converting five 3-pointers to Baker's three.
In the second half, the Ravens maintained their halftime lead, pushing it to as much as nine points before the Wildcats started to chip away at their deficit.
The two teams continued to trade baskets over the middle third of the second half but Benedictine never gave up their lead.
Through three ties over the final four minutes of the game, Benedictine never trailed until a 3-pointer by Baker's Jordan Honore pushed the Wildcats ahead 50-47 with 47 seconds remaining.
Benedictine was limited to one free throw from guard Jonathon Anaekwe (Soph., Shawnee) and a last-second basket from forward Charlie Wallrapp (Jr., Omaha) as Baker converted four straight free throws to seal the win.
The Ravens finished with two players in double figures as Wallrapp scored a game-high 23 points. Anaekwe added 10.
Benedictine travels to No. 4 seed Central Methodist University for the HAAC Quarterfinals. Tip off from Fayette, Mo., is scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday as the CMU women will also be hosting a quarterfinal game.
